Sadie Sink’s Secret ‘Spider-Man’ Role May Have Been Accidentally Revealed — But Marvel Hasn’t Confirmed It

Sadie Sink’s mysterious character in Spider-Man: Brand New Day may have been accidentally revealed at the film’s July 27 premiere — but Marvel and Sony have yet to officially confirm the identity.

The apparent slip came from musician Steve Lacy, whose music appears in the movie. During a red-carpet interview, Lacy was reportedly asked which character he was most excited to see on screen. According to GamesRadar and TheWrap, both of which reviewed footage of the exchange, Lacy responded, “You know what, Jean. I like Jean. She’s the villain, but there’s a reason to her madness, and I like her.”

Lacy then appeared to realize that he may have revealed information that had not previously been made public.

Still, there is an important distinction: Lacy did not mention Sadie Sink by name or explicitly say “Jean Grey.” Neither Marvel nor Sony has issued a statement confirming that Sink is playing the character.

GamesRadar emphasized that Lacy’s comment “isn’t strictly confirmation,” while noting that the remark would be a striking coincidence given the secrecy surrounding Sink’s role. TheWrap similarly treated the moment as an apparent reveal rather than an official confirmation.

That secrecy has been deliberate. Sink’s character has been kept out of the movie’s marketing since her casting was announced. Director Destin Daniel Cretton previously said there was “a very real reason not to tell people who Sadie Sink is playing.”

Sink herself has also avoided confirming any specific role. When questioned about the theories surrounding her character, she has simply said that “people will just have to wait and see.”

The idea that Sink could be playing Jean Grey is not new. Fans had already been speculating about the possibility for weeks, with some pointing to trailer footage they believed could suggest mind-control or telepathic abilities. Earlier coverage from Channel News Asia’s lifestyle desk noted that speculation.

Lacy’s comment therefore doesn’t introduce an entirely new theory — instead, it appears to line up with one that fans were already discussing. That connection is part of what has made the remark so intriguing to outlets covering the premiere.

For now, however, Sadie Sink’s role remains officially unconfirmed.

Unless Marvel or Sony addresses Lacy’s comment directly, the character should be treated as only apparently identified, rather than definitively revealed. The answer may ultimately come when Spider-Man: Brand New Day opens July 31, when audiences can see Sink’s character for themselves.

Until then, the “Jean” comment remains exactly what it appears to be: a potentially revealing red-carpet slip, but not official confirmation.
