Chris Stapleton gave fans at Washington’s iconic The Gorge a special surprise this past weekend when he welcomed Grace Potter to the stage for a pair of electrifying performances of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Born On The Bayou.”

Stapleton has spent the past several years bringing an impressive lineup of musicians along for his ongoing All-American Road Show, though he rarely joins them onstage. That changed on Friday and Saturday at The Gorge, where Potter joined the country superstar for the classic Creedence Clearwater Revival song.

Potter and her backing band opened both shows at the scenic George, Washington, venue, continuing their run with Stapleton after previously performing at his concerts in Hershey, Pennsylvania, and Portland, Oregon, earlier this summer.

The collaboration comes as Potter prepares to release her seventh studio album, “Trespasser,” which is due out August 21 via Thirty Tigers.

Stapleton headlined both nights with lengthy sets that drew heavily from his albums Higher (2023), Starting Over (2020) and Traveller (2015). While the two setlists differed slightly, the overall structure remained similar.

Before bringing Potter onto the stage, Stapleton performed his familiar cover of John Fogerty’s “Joy Of My Life.” He then welcomed Potter for the much-anticipated “Born On The Bayou” performances.

Potter brought plenty of fire to the collaboration, unleashing energetic solos on her Flying V guitar during both versions as she and Stapleton traded verses throughout the song.

Originally released by Creedence Clearwater Revival on their sophomore studio album, Bayou Country, in 1969, “Born On The Bayou” has remained one of the band’s signature classics.

Interestingly, neither Stapleton nor Potter had previously performed the song before their shows together at The Gorge, making the weekend collaboration an especially memorable addition to both artists’ live performances.
