Walworth, Wis. — Building on the incredible momentum generated during January’s Kissimmee event, Mecum Auctions brought unparalleled energy to Indianapolis this May. Total sales at Dana Mecum’s 39th Original Spring Classic soared past previous heights, closing in on a monumental $200 million landmark.
Throughout the extensive nine-day event held from May 8-16, more than 2,600 lots moved across the auction block, yielding a remarkably strong 76% sell-through rate. Backed by an exceptional vehicle presentation, Mecum Indy 2026 surpassed its prior venue high of $124 million, establishing a major $70 million increase to land at a spectacular $193 million total.
The final Saturday of the event, May 16, set an unprecedented single-day benchmark for the Spring Classic series by generating $127 million in sales. This single-day performance outperformed both the entire event total from the prior year and the historic overall high for the venue. Because transactions continue to be finalized through “The Bid Goes On” department, final figures are expected to rise further over the next few days.
Elite European Supercars Take Center Stage
The concluding statistics reflected immense marketplace success, with six elite vehicles outperforming the $5 million threshold. The auction’s premier feature, The M Group, showcased 41 exceptional vehicles and claimed the top spot of the entire event: a 1963 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spyder which brought a commanding $18.15 million. Other remarkable highlights from The M Group included a 1995 Ferrari F50 that secured $9.79 million and a 2005 Maserati MC12 that reached $9.46 million. Distinctive offerings from The Only Original Once Collection also earned elite placements on the leaderboard, where a 2003 Ferrari Enzo fetched $10.23 million, while a modern 2014 Ferrari LaFerrari drew $8.58 million.
American Muscle and Modern Icons
True to long-standing traditions, Mecum Indy 2026 offered a premier selection of classic American performance cars. A prime highlight was a rare, competition-spec 1965 Shelby GT350R Fastback driven historically by Dick Jordan, which reached $2.75 million to secure the ninth spot overall. An early two-digit production 1965 Shelby GT350 also crossed the million-dollar mark at $1.1 million, while a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 (identified as number 2 of only 69 units ever manufactured) commanded a premium of $1.43 million. Additionally, a modern icon from the Blue Oval, a 2006 Ford GT Heritage Edition, successfully changed hands for $1,292,500, and a rare Grabber Green 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429 Fastback (one of nine produced) secured $660,000.
Further adding to the presentation, The Apex Collection featured a highly regarded 1990 Porsche 911 by Singer that fetched $1.65 million. Alongside it, an award-winning, expertly restored 1947 Chrysler Town & Country concluded at $220,000 after generating a wave of competitive bidding.
