Holly Willoughby Admits She Thought Her TV Career Was Over After The Terrifying Kidn@p Plot

Holly Willoughby has admitted there was a 'time she wasn't sure if she would ever return to the spotlight' following the horrific kidnap, rape and murder plot

Holly Willoughby has opened up about one of the most difficult periods of her career, revealing that there was a time when she was unsure whether she would ever return to the public eye following the traumatic kidnap, rape, and murder plot that led her to step away from television.

The former This Morning presenter is now preparing to launch a new self-funded YouTube series titled Together, marking a new chapter after taking time away from regular broadcasting. The digital project will feature celebrity interviews and lifestyle content, with Willoughby serving as both presenter and producer.

Speaking about her decision to return, Willoughby explained that the break from television was necessary after the events that dramatically changed her life. She said she needed time to focus on her family and close friends before deciding whether she wanted to continue working in the spotlight.

According to her comments, there was a period when she genuinely believed her television career might be over. Rather than rushing back to work, she chose to step away until she felt emotionally ready to return.

Willoughby’s departure from This Morning came after authorities uncovered a plot targeting the presenter. In 2024, Gavin Plumb was sentenced to life imprisonment after being convicted in connection with plans to kidnap, rape, and murder the television star. The case received widespread media attention and prompted Willoughby to leave the ITV daytime program, where she had been one of the network’s best-known presenters for more than a decade.

The former This Morning star, 45, is reclaiming her fame with an exciting new YouTube show called Together

Now, nearly three years later, she says she feels ready to begin again with a project that gives her greater creative control.

Together is scheduled to launch on July 28 and will feature two episodes each week. The program is divided into several themed sections, including conversations, cooking, lifestyle, wellness, and informal celebrity chats. Unlike her previous television work, the series is being independently produced, allowing Willoughby to shape both the editorial direction and the presentation style.

The project is being developed alongside Hungry Bear Media, the production company co-founded by her husband, Dan Baldwin. The company is already known for producing a variety of entertainment programs for British television, but Together represents a move into creator-led digital content rather than traditional broadcasting.

Despite her exciting new venture, Holly has said she thought her career in the public eye was over for good at one point after a difficult few years

The launch also reflects broader changes across the entertainment industry. Many established television personalities have begun expanding onto platforms such as YouTube, where they have more flexibility over scheduling, production, and audience engagement. Rather than relying solely on traditional broadcasters, presenters are increasingly building direct relationships with viewers through online platforms.

Although Willoughby has returned to television for selected projects, including Dancing On Ice and Netflix’s Celebrity Bear Hunt, reports suggest she currently has no immediate plans to return to a full-time daytime television role.

Instead, Together represents a fresh direction that combines her experience as a presenter with a new role behind the camera as a producer. After nearly 25 years working in British television, Willoughby says she now feels confident enough to embrace a different way of creating content—one that reflects both her professional ambitions and the personal journey she has taken since stepping away from one of the country’s most recognizable daytime shows.
