Taylor Swift Remembers Dolly Parton in a Heartfelt Tribute

Taylor Swift is remembering Dolly Parton following the country music icon’s death at 80, reflecting on the qualities that made Parton both an inspiration and a role model throughout Swift’s career.

In a statement shared with PEOPLE on August 25, 2026, Swift described Parton as an extraordinary artist whose generosity and influence would continue long after her death. She emphasized how Parton encouraged people to remain true to themselves while using her own life and career to inspire generations of others.

Swift also praised the unique balance she saw in Parton: a woman capable of maintaining mystery around parts of her life while remaining open and sincere when it mattered most. She remembered Parton as someone who combined grace with determination, compassion for others with an unwavering belief in her own worth as an artist.

The tribute reflected a relationship of mutual admiration that had developed over more than a decade.

Swift also highlighted Parton’s impact beyond music, particularly through her philanthropy. She pointed to the millions of books provided to children through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, an initiative that encourages young readers to discover the same love of stories that Parton herself had as a child.

Parton’s songwriting was another major part of Swift’s remembrance. Swift celebrated the melodies and lyrics that have continued to connect with listeners across generations, describing the country star’s music as a lasting source of emotional inspiration.

Parton’s nephew Bryan Seaver confirmed her death in an Instagram video on August 25. Representatives for the singer later said that she died following a brief battle with cancer.

One of the final public interactions between Parton and Swift came only weeks before her death. On July 3, Parton shared a video thanking Swift and her husband, Travis Kelce, for a $2 million donation to the Imagination Library.

The message came on the same day Swift and Kelce tied the knot at Madison Square Garden. Parton expressed her gratitude for their charitable contribution and jokingly suggested that their future first child could become part of her life as well.

The exchange offered another glimpse into the affection between the two artists. Parton had publicly supported Swift for years, praising the younger singer’s determination and ability to understand who she was as an artist.

In a 2015 interview with PEOPLE, Parton reflected on Swift’s rise in Nashville and expressed pride in the way she pursued her ambitions despite facing competition from many talented performers.

That admiration ultimately became part of a much larger artistic connection. Swift grew up viewing Parton as someone worth looking up to, while Parton recognized in Swift the same kind of confidence and commitment that can sustain a career across generations.

Now, following Parton’s death, Swift is among the many artists paying tribute to a performer whose influence extended far beyond country music. For Swift, Parton’s legacy lives not only through the songs she created, but also through the example she set for artists and the lives she touched through her generosity.
