Ariana Grande Honors Dolly Parton With Emotional London Tribute

Ariana Grande turned her London concert into a heartfelt moment of remembrance for the late Dolly Parton, honoring the country music legend before taking the stage at the O2 arena.

During Grande’s Eternal Sunshine Tour stop, concertgoers were shown a video of Parton performing her beloved classic I Will Always Love You. Rather than placing the tribute inside Grande’s set, her team played the memorial video before the concert officially began, giving the audience a chance to reflect on Parton’s legacy.

The tribute came shortly after Parton’s death on Tuesday at age 80, prompting an outpouring of recognition from across the music industry. For the London audience, seeing Parton perform one of her most enduring songs created a poignant opening to Grande’s evening.

Parton originally wrote and recorded I Will Always Love You in 1974. The song later reached an even wider global audience when Whitney Houston recorded her iconic version for the soundtrack of the 1992 film The Bodyguard.

The song’s continued resonance has helped keep Parton’s musical legacy in the spotlight following her death, as artists and listeners around the world revisit the work that established her as one of country music’s most beloved figures.

Grande’s tribute also comes during a significant chapter of her own career. Her London dates are part of the Eternal Sunshine Tour, her first major tour since 2019.

The tour is scheduled to conclude on September 1, after which Grande plans to step away from public-facing work for a period. An August 2 statement announced that she would take a break from visibility after completing the tour, citing the ongoing public scrutiny surrounding her life while emphasizing her desire to finish the tour on a positive note.

For Grande, the London tribute offered a simple but powerful way to acknowledge Parton’s influence: before the lights, music and spectacle of the concert began, the audience was invited to remember a country icon through one of her most enduring songs.
