Nolan Wells’ Best Friend Breaks Silence—What He Revealed About Rumors Changes Everything

Nolan Wells’ Best Friend Speaks Out Amid Rumors

The tragic death of Nolan Wells, the 18‑year‑old football player who vanished during a Fourth of July trip to Horn Island and was found dead two days later, continues to stir questions and speculation. Now, his self‑described best friend Warren Hudson has spoken publicly for the first time, addressing rumors that have circulated online.

Hudson Denies Hurtful Claims

Hudson, who was among the group of friends on the boat with Wells, told the New York Post: “It’s a sick world we’re living in. It’s terrible. Nolan was my best friend. There’s no facts out, just a lot of rumors. That’s just how the internet is today. That’s really it, it’s horrible.”

His mother, Ashlee Cole, a Jackson County judge, released a statement explaining that the group returned to the mainland after their boat experienced mechanical issues. She said Wells chose to remain on the island to return later with another group of friends. Cole also denied accusations that her family tried to obstruct the investigation, noting that her son had fully cooperated with police interviews.

Family’s Grief and Search for Answers

Wells’ parents, Christine Wells‑Wonsley and Elmore Wonsley, have publicly questioned the circumstances of their son’s death, including why his friends allegedly had possession of his phone and keys. At his funeral on July 20, Christine tearfully urged mourners: “Keep Nolan’s memory alive, hold him close in your hearts, share the stories and never stop saying his name.”

The funeral, held at Center Pointe Church in Ocean Springs, drew hundreds, including director Spike Lee and NFL legend Terrell Owens. Rev. Al Sharpton officiated and announced a $100,000 reward — later increased to $125,000 with Owens’ contribution — for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.

Civil rights attorney Ben Crump, representing the Wells family, confirmed that an independent autopsy has been conducted. Preliminary results are expected to be announced at the NAACP National Convention in Chicago.

As speculation continues, Hudson’s statement underscores the toll rumors have taken on those closest to Wells, while his family presses forward in their pursuit of truth and justice.
