A Street Fight Caught on Camera
A bizarre street fight in Manhattan’s East Village has gone viral after a bystander captured the entire chaotic sequence on video, showing a Mercedes driver and a skateboarder trading blows in a confrontation that ended with one man losing consciousness.
How It All Started
The altercation broke out Tuesday along St. Marks Place near Second Avenue, involving a 34-year-old motorist and a still-unidentified skateboarder. According to a freelance photographer who witnessed and filmed the incident, he missed the initial spark of the fight, but bystanders told him the driver had nearly struck the skateboarder and another man with his SUV moments earlier.

From Shouting Match to Physical Fight
What began as a heated argument escalated quickly when the skateboarder picked up his board and smashed it into the SUV’s windshield, shattering it. He then struck the vehicle two more times before throwing the board down. The enraged driver ran out of the car, grabbed the fallen skateboard, and used it to strike the skateboarder in the body, kicking off a chaotic physical confrontation between the two men.
The Fight Escalates
The scuffle continued as the skateboarder eventually threw the driver to the ground, retrieved the board once more, and struck him over the head with it, all while a woman inside the vehicle screamed for them to stop. The skateboarder then put the driver in a headlock as onlookers attempted to intervene and separate the two men, with both sides shouting conflicting accounts of who started the altercation.

A Fight That Ended in the Hospital
According to police, the confrontation ended with the driver losing consciousness while restrained in the headlock. Responding NYPD officers found him unconscious at the scene, and he was transported to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition. The skateboarder had already left the area by the time police arrived, and no arrests have been made as the investigation continues.
A Viral Moment With Mixed Reactions
The video, posted to social media by the witness who filmed it, quickly gained traction online, amassing more than 3 million views. While many viewers found the footage shocking, others criticized the person filming for not attempting to intervene. He defended his decision, explaining that getting involved in a fight between two grown men wasn’t his responsibility, adding that minding one’s own business is simply part of life in the city.
A Cautionary Tale
Reflecting on the outcome after learning the driver had been knocked unconscious, the witness suggested the entire situation could have been avoided entirely, noting that stepping out of a vehicle to confront someone rarely ends well.
