Awards season often brings surprises, and this year several actors from the acclaimed medical drama The Pitt are creating their own path to Emmy consideration after being omitted from HBO Max’s official campaign strategy.

According to reports, actors Jeff Kober, Luke Tennie, and Brittany Allen have independently submitted themselves for consideration at the 2026 Emmy Awards. The move comes after HBO Max selected only a limited number of guest performers from the show’s large ensemble cast for its official awards campaign.

Kober portrayed Duke Ekins, a longtime biker friend of Dr. Robby, played by Noah Wyle. Though his screen time was limited, his performance left a strong impression on viewers by adding emotional depth and history to Dr. Robby’s storyline.

Luke Tennie, meanwhile, played Dr. Cyrus Henderson, a physician working the night shift at the hospital. His character became a memorable part of Season 2, contributing to the show’s realistic portrayal of the pressures faced by healthcare workers in a busy emergency department.

Brittany Allen also delivered one of the season’s most emotional performances as Roxie Hamler, a terminal cancer patient whose storyline resonated with many viewers. Her scenes highlighted the series’ ability to balance medical drama with deeply personal human stories.

While HBO Max officially submitted only a handful of guest actors for Emmy consideration, industry observers note that such decisions are often strategic rather than reflective of performance quality. Television networks frequently narrow their submissions to avoid splitting votes among actors from the same series. With a cast as extensive as The Pitt, determining which performers to campaign can become a difficult balancing act.

Financial considerations may also play a role. Emmy submissions require entry fees for each individual performer, and costs can accumulate quickly when a series features dozens of eligible actors. However, many analysts believe HBO’s choices were largely tactical, particularly given the network’s history of investing heavily in awards campaigns for its flagship productions.

The situation is not unprecedented. During the previous Emmy cycle, several The Pitt actors also chose to self-submit after not being included in HBO’s official campaign. Ultimately, guest actor Shawn Hatosy emerged as the category winner, proving that strong performances can still break through even in crowded fields.

Self-submissions have occasionally led to major success stories throughout Emmy history. One of the most notable examples came when actress Gwendoline Christie independently entered herself for the final season of Game of Thrones and subsequently secured a nomination. Similar success followed for Kelly Jenrette, who earned an Emmy nomination after self-submitting her work in The Handmaid’s Tale.

For Kober, Tennie, and Allen, the decision to campaign independently reflects confidence in their work and recognition of the impact their performances had on audiences. Whether those efforts translate into nominations remains to be seen.

The 2026 Emmy nominations are scheduled to be announced on July 8, when viewers and industry professionals alike will learn whether these self-submitted performances have earned a place among television’s highest honors.
