Sofronio Vasquez shines bright on The Voice 26, bringing experience and skill to win over all four coaches

Ahead of The Voice Season 26’s debut tonight, we’ve had the opportunity to see previews of a few potential winners. One contestant who has already stolen the spotlight on The Voice is Sofronio Vasquez, and his blind audition could be one of the best the show has seen in years.

But who exactly is Sofronio Vasquez? Let’s look at five fast facts about the potential superstar who might just make it far on this season of The Voice!

1. He Performed “I’m Goin’ Down” by Mary J. Blige During His Blind Audition

Sofronio Vasquez is quite talented at performing R&B and soul covers. It was a smart move to whip out “I’m Goin’ Down” by Mary J. Blige during his blind audition. Vasquez absolutely nailed the cover. He’s got some great vocal control but is still rough around the edges. We can’t wait to see how he grows and polishes his sound throughout the competition!

2. He’s One Of Few Contestants Who Got an Instant Four-Chair Turn

It takes a lot of talent to get a four-chair turn from the coaches on The Voice. Vasquez made it look easy. Snoop Dogg was the first to recognize his talent just a few syllables into his performance and coaches Michael Buble, Reba McEntire, and Gwen Stefani quickly followed. You have to be really good if all of the coaches start to fight over you. Ultimately, Vasquez picked Michael Buble as his coach.

3. He Has Gone Viral Before

Vasquez clearly knows his way around a cover. He recorded and posted a cover of the song “That’s What Friends Are For” by Dionne Warwick on social media, and the song quickly went viral. Specifically, the video snatched 9 million views on Facebook and 1 million views on TikTok. Clearly, the world has already recognized his talent. Hopefully, viewers of The Voice will, too.

4. He Hails From The Philippines

Anyone from the Philippines knows all too well that singing is a big part of the culture. Sofronio Vaquez is from the Philipines and has even appeared on a singing competition show in his native country before wowing the coaches on The Voice in the US.

5. ‘The Voice’ Isn’t His First Competition Rodeo

Vasquez has a bit more experience than some of the newer contestants on The Voice. He actually appeared on the famous Filipino talent competition show Tawag ng Tanghalan before, and came quite close to winning. Vasquez appeared on the show in 2019 for their “All-Star Grand Resbak” season, where his talented pipes landed him in third place.
