Kelly Clarkson began appearing on the Billboard charts more than two decades ago, during her run on a new TV series called American Idol. In the more than 20 years since she was crowned the first winner of that enduring program, the singer has scored many hit singles and released a number of hugely successful albums. She’s found wins in a number of styles, but there’s still room to grow and new audiences to reach, as is apparent by her current performance on one Billboard tally.
This week, Clarkson earns her first hit on a chart she’s never seen before. The musician and TV show host reaches the list alongside a legend, who simultaneously adds to her growing list of smashes.
Clarkson hits the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart this frame, collecting her first placement on Billboard’s list of the most-consumed tracks in the U.S. that fit under either, or both, of those descriptors. She opens at No. 48 on the 50-spot tally with “DJ Play A Christmas Song,” which is new to the ranking.
“DJ Play A Christmas Song” is a duet between Clarkson and the song’s original performer, Cher. The latter superstar re-released the cut as a collaboration just a short time ago for the 2024 holiday season, and it’s become a hit in its own right.
Cher has now collected just four hits on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart—a surprisingly small sum for an artist who is a household name, and who has been working largely in those genres for years now. Amazingly, half of all of the Oscar winner’s wins on the tally are versions of this seasonal tune, which has become a special smash for the actress and musician.

In 2023, when it was brand new, “DJ Play A Christmas Song” worked its way to No. 3 on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart. Now, the newer take increases Cher’s total number of appearances, and it helps Clarkson expand her reach.
Clarkson has her own holiday tunes and albums rising the charts at the moment, as years ago she inserted herself into this space. She’s now released a pair of Christmas albums, with the first, Wrapped In Red, remaining a modern classic. She further cements her status as a favorite in December with her Cher collaboration, which fans of both acts seem to love.
