Kelly Clarkson can seriously belt some powerful songs and thensome. She proved this—not that it needed proving—on June 30, 2021’s The Kelly Clarkson Show, when she did a mind-blowing rendition of Adele’s classic hit “Rolling in the Deep.” Watch the throwback performance here.

“There’s a fire starting in my heart, reaching a fever pitch, it’s bringing me out the dark,” Clarkson sang slowly and dramatically while piano chords played in the background.

Then, the song picked up in intensity with hard-hitting drums and staccato guitar notes while blue lights flashed behind her in the background. “Finally, I can see you crystal clear; go ahead and sell me out, and I’ll lay your ship bare. See how I’ll leave with every piece of you, don’t underestimate the things that I will do,” she crooned passionately.

When it was time for the pre-chorus, Clarkson continued to sing in a determined, focus manner. “The scars of your love remind me of us; they keep me thinking that we almost had it all. The scars of your love they leave me breathless. I can’t help feeling…” the song built up in suspense.

Then, the breathtaking chorus hit. “We could’ve had it all, rolling in the deep,” Clarkson sang the song’s signature lyrics with a stunning belting tone that will send chills down your spine. Meanwhile, her epic background singers crooned, “You’re gonna wish you never had met me, tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep,” synchronizing perfectly.

“You had my heart inside your hands; and you played it to the beat,” Clarkson continued to sing with grit.

“We could’ve had it all, rolling in the deep. You had my heart inside your hands, and you played it, you played it, you played it, you played it to the beat,” she repeated while pulling off an impressive high-note riff.

This wasn’t the only time Clarkson has done Adele justice by covering her songs. In the past few months alone, she’s performed amazing versions of “Set Fire to the Rain” and “Rumor Has It.”
