Kelly Clarkson is queen of the vocal belt. Seriously! Her ability to powerfully hit some very high notes is unmatched. She’s displayed this skill time and time again, even turning songs like “Monster Mash” into feats of music ferocity.
It’s hard to pick The Voice Coach’s best-ever vocal belt — believe me, we’ve tried — but one serious contender could be her take on Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s “Shallow,” the hit song from their 2018 remake of A Star Is Born.
The song is no walk in the park — those elevating “ahhh-ah-ah-ah-ah-aaahs” leading to the explosive chorus are tough to nail — but Clarkson made belting it look easy. Clarkson sang “Shallow” back in 2019 in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and even with a slight lyrical flub, the performance is masterful. Gaga herself would be proud!

About “Shallow”
“Shallow” is a song co-written by Lady Gaga and originally performed by Gaga and Bradley Cooper for the 2018 film A Star is Born. The song was universally acclaimed by critics for its dramatic arc and won an Oscar for “Best Original Song” in 2019.
In an interview with Variety, Lady Gaga explained why she believed the song did so well. “This is a song between a man and a woman, and he actually listens to her. And I think we live in a time when this is something that is really important to women. Women want to be heard,” she said.
