American Idol’s Daniel Stallworth breaks his silence after Top 5 elimination with six emotional words, as fans continue to argue he was “robbed” of a spot in the next round. While viewers remain stunned by his exit, two of this season’s Top 5 contestants have also spoken out, offering surprising support—and a candid look at how close the competition really is.
Daniel, who delivered one of the night’s most praised performances with a soulful, piano-backed version of “Best Part” by H.E.R. and Daniel Caesar, had been widely seen as a strong contender heading into the results.

Carrie Underwood compared his voice to “like butter on hot toast,” while Nikki Glaser praised his “versatility” and even said she could already envision him leading a full tour. Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan were also visibly impressed, noting they had never even heard some of the notes he was able to reach, with Richie calling the performance “amazing.”
Earlier in the night, Daniel also performed “Fearless” with a gospel-inspired twist, earning praise from Richie for walking on stage with true confidence. “What I love about you is that you picked the right song, you are fearless, man, when you walk out,” Richie said, adding that Daniel doesn’t just sing—he performs.

Despite the strong critical response, the live vote ultimately placed Daniel in the bottom two alongside Brooks Rosser, ending both of their journeys in the Top 5. The result immediately triggered backlash online, with many fans calling the elimination unfair and questioning how one of the season’s most vocally gifted contestants could be sent home so early.
“HE WAS ROBBED!!!!” one viewer wrote, while another added that Daniel was “considerably more gifted in all areas” than others still in the competition.
Following his exit, Daniel addressed fans directly on social media with a short but powerful message: “He’s not done with me yet!!!!!! Thank you @americanidol”

The post quickly gained traction among supporters still processing his elimination.
Meanwhile, two remaining Top 5 contestants also reacted publicly. Jordan McCullough shared a message of admiration and encouragement, writing: “Eyes haven’t seen & ears haven’t heard… get ready! My brother for life! 🫡🙏” Keyla Richardson echoed the sentiment with a heartfelt response: “❤️ FACTS bruh bruh! Love you!!! This is just the beginning!!!”

Their comments reflect a growing consensus among contestants that Daniel’s departure was not a reflection of lack of talent, but rather the unpredictable nature of viewer voting in a tightly contested season.

With the Top 5 now set—Keyla Richardson, Braden Rumfelt, Jordan McCullough, Hannah Harper, and Chris Tungseth—the competition moves closer to its finale, where every performance carries even higher stakes.
American Idol airs Mondays at 8/7c on ABC.
