Inside Matt Brown’s Isolated Life in Loomis, Washington — The Solitary World He Built Far From His Family
Long before the news broke that shook the Alaskan Bush People community, Matt Brown had already been living a life most fans knew very little about. Far from the cameras, far from the Wolf Pack, and in many ways far from the family he had grown up alongside — Matt had quietly carved out a solitary existence in one of the smallest towns in Washington State.
A Town of 101 People

Loomis, Washington is barely a dot on the map. With just 101 residents, it is the kind of place where everyone knows everyone — or at least knows of them. Matt had settled there after stepping away from Alaskan Bush People, taking work on a local farm to support himself and keeping a profile so low that most people outside the community had no idea where he was.
What made the situation particularly striking was that several of his siblings — Noah, Gabe, Rain, and Snowbird — also lived in or near Loomis, not far from the family’s North Star Ranch. Despite being in the same tiny town, none of them were on speaking terms with their older brother. Matt would occasionally venture into town for groceries. He never ran into them.
Life on the Farm and in the Mountains

Away from the spotlight, Matt found a quiet rhythm. He worked the farm. He hiked. He camped overnight on Chopaka Mountain, returning to the kind of wilderness he had grown up in. In the moments when he did speak publicly, it was often about sobriety — he had reached the two-year mark in 2022 and used his platform to encourage others to keep fighting.
“He hopes to spread a positive message,” those close to him said at the time. For a man who had faced some of the darkest chapters imaginable, those words carried real weight.
Why He Left the Show
Matt’s departure from Alaskan Bush People came after serious accusations surfaced in connection with incidents alleged to have occurred in 2008. Two women reported the claims to the LAPD, though the district attorney ultimately declined to prosecute. The family show nonetheless moved forward without him, and the reunion that many fans hoped for never came.
In the seasons that followed, the Brown family navigated the loss of patriarch Billy Brown, relocations, health scares, and rebuilding. Matt’s name was largely absent from those conversations — even as he lived just miles away.
A Life Spent Waiting
Perhaps what is most poignant about Matt Brown’s final years is the image of a man living in the shadow of a family he could not reach. Same small town. Different worlds. He kept to himself, worked the land, climbed his mountain, and held onto the hope — by most accounts — that reconciliation might one day come.
It never did.
