Father of Alligator Attack Victim Calls for Safety Changes
Five days after the tragic death of Brittany Clark, her father is speaking publicly for the first time, calling for changes to prevent another tragedy in Florida’s waterways.
The Attack and Immediate Response
Clark, 31, was swimming in the Econlockhatchee River at Little Big Econ State Forest in Seminole County when she was fatally attacked by an alligator. Newly released body camera footage shows deputies rushing to the scene with a tourniquet in hand, but despite desperate efforts from first responders, Clark did not survive. Her boyfriend and best friend, who were with her during the attack, fought tirelessly to save her, pulling her from the water and attempting CPR until help arrived.
Her father, Robert Clark, expressed deep gratitude to those who tried to save her: “They truly are heroes. They did everything they could to make it better for her before she ultimately passed.”
Remembering Brittany
Robert Clark emphasized that he wants his daughter remembered for how she lived, not how she died. Brittany was known for her adventurous spirit — she loved riding motorcycles, skydiving, scuba diving, hiking with her dogs, and exploring new places with friends. Her father described her as someone who embraced life fully and sought out every opportunity to experience the world.
Calls for Safety Changes

In the wake of her death, Clark is urging officials to implement stronger safety measures at Florida parks and rivers. He suggested more warning signs for visitors and even expanding hunting permits to regulate the alligator population. “Maybe give hunters more permits to regulate the population,” he said, stressing that steps must be taken to reduce risks for families enjoying outdoor activities.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) responded by noting that the state manages its alligator population through the Nuisance Alligator Program and an annual hunting season that runs from August 15 to November 1.
A Family in Mourning
As the Clark family grieves, they are also preparing to celebrate Brittany’s life. Her boyfriend is currently planning a memorial service, though no date has been set. For Robert Clark, the focus remains on honoring his daughter’s adventurous spirit and ensuring her death sparks meaningful change.
